There is a flat spring placed above the chamber. The screw that holds it can be seen on top of the receiver. That spring serves two purposes. 1) It keeps the firing pin from rising above the rim of the cartridge. 2) It keeps the cartridge aligned with the chamber for smooth chambering. This will give you a true half cock safety just like what is on the Marlin 1895gs. The old hammer is cut differently from the new hammers, because of this the cross bolt safety becomes useless.
