B18b1 valve adjustment specs.

While sharing some design elements and both being multi valve Honda four-cylinders, the B-series and B20A differ substantially in architecture, enough to be considered distinct engine families. They were made in 1.6-, 1.7-, 1.8-, and 2.0-liter variants, with and without VTEC (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control).

For each cylinder, roll the crank until the exhaust valve just starts to open (move down) then adjust the intake valve to 0 lash and turn another 1/2 turn. Then roll the crank until the Intake just starts to close (full open and just starting back up) and adjust the exhaust valve to 0 lash and turn another 1/2 turn. Repeat for each cylinder.Intake: .08mm - .12mmExhaust: .16mm - .20mm I used .004in and .007 in for the exhaust.10) With your feeler gauge, check the valve clearance by inserting the gauge in between the top of the valve stem and under the adjusting nut. See above for spec clearances. 11) If the clearance is off (under or over spec), loosen the locknut at the top of the valve assembly with a 9mm wrench (I forget, maybe an 8mm, but memory makes me think 9mm).

What is different is the dimensions of the runners themselves. The B16a runners Internal Diameter is SMALLER than the port into the head and it's OD is the same width as the port. the Type-R's ID is about the same size as the port. Here is a shot of the runner's OD: B16a. Type-R.2. Vtec (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control) VTEC technology allows for the engine’s camshafts to adjust valve timing and lift based on engine RPM. This results in improved low-end torque and high-end horsepower, as well as improved fuel efficiency. The B18B1 engine does not have VTEC technology. 3. Roller Rocker Arms
